Having acted both for and against large insurance companies, Ian has an excellent knowledge of all aspects of Compensation law. He has worked on a number of reported cases, including Gardikiotisv Nominal Defendant, a matter involving a woman who suffered whiplash during a motor vehicle accident which exacerbated a pre-existing multiple sclerosis condition, to the extent that it became incapacitating. This case set a precedent for the payment of damages related to the cost of managing a client’s awarded funds. Among Ian’s most challenging and unusual matters were claims made by various businesses that were victims of the Thredbo Disaster of37713. 

Ian has a current UK Practicing Certificate. He has run many cases for English clients who have been injured whilst in Australia, and is currently acting for a young girl who suffered a spinal injury when she fell off a horse in NSW, a case which will be heard in England. Ian has also conducted matters for clients in Turkey and New Zealand. He often handles cases for non-English speaking clients with the aid of an interpreter.

Ian’s first jobs as an ice cream van driver and then a chauffeur in north-east England, gave him the ability to communicate with, and relate to, many different types of people, a skill that continues to assist him. A patient solicitor, Ian takes the timeto really listen to his clients and involve them in the legal process.

Outside of Work

The father of two adult children and recently a first-time Grandfather, Ian loves nothing more than puttering around the harbour on his boat. He enjoys traveling, and last year spent 3 months long service leave in France, Austria, Italy and the UK. Outside the office you may also find him swimming, bushwalking or skiing (preferably in Canada!)
