raise awareness about the plight of communities recovering from a disaster, such
as areas of Indonesia and Thailand after the tsunami. Ruth has also taught International
Media Studies at Newcastle University, and worked as a research assistant in the
Faculty of Law.
She is an energetic and compassionate lawyer with a strong commitment to social
justice.

This includes liaising with the media and the Australian Nuclear Veterans Association
regarding Australian military veterans who were exposed to radiation as a result
of British nuclear bomb testing in Australia in the 1950’s and 60’s. As part of
this role, Ruth is involved in lobbying the Australian government and parliament

to develop a strong rapport with her clients.
The eldest of four children, Ruth spends much of her spare time outdoors, often
at the beach. An executive member of the Young Lawyers Human Rights Committee, she
is regularly involved in community education, such as giving migrant/refugee communities
information about how they can access the legal system and understand their rights.
Ruth is passionate about helping members of the community most in need.
